It works wonderfully. The smooth texture of the clay once it’s dried makes it very easy to paint onto, so that is another plus. One last thing, this clay dries out my hands a LOT. Working with it for a few hours basically absorbed all of the moisture in my hands and made it mildly uncomfortable for the night.
For the DAS Modelling Clay you should allow 24 hours drying time per centimetre thickness. You can ‘t bake or fire air – dry clay. Unfortunately, this process makes the clay more flammable, and it should never be fired or heated in a kiln or oven.
Since air – dry clay is superficially similar to ordinary clay, it can be shaped as normal and even used on a potter’s wheel. Some of these like Das modelling clay are produced from an air drying polymer clay. Das clay air dries to a tougher and smoother finish than standard airdrying earthen clay. Paper clay is also a more recent phenomenon. It can be made out of throw away egg boxes or can be bought in bags as dry powder.
Since air-dry clay is not waterproof, it can’t be used for outdoor clay items. However, using acrylic paint or applying a varnish may make the air-dry clay suitable for outdoor clay pieces. It will help in preventing your finished item from cracking.
